Link of the Day: Hachikō

I didn’t like any of today’s news, so the Link of the Day is going to be to remember – or learn – about a special dog.

My boyfriend and I just finished watching the movie Hachi: A Dog’s Tale and we both cried like babies.  It’s a beautiful movie about love, loyalty, and just how true it is that dogs are man’s best friend.  It’s based off of a true story, and after watching it, I just had to see the real Hachi.

Check out this marvelous dog’s story from the link above.  Even just reading about him will make you tear up!

Happy Saturday All!

Link of the Day: Huge – Though Cruel – Breakthrough for People with Paralysis

A once-paralyzed rat with a robotic harness.

National Geographic: Paralyzed Rats Walk Again, Thanks to Electricity, Chemicals – And Chocolate

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only reason why I am making this the Link of the Day is because I do know someone who is paralyzed – he became paralyzed after a dirt bike accident – and this is a huge breakthrough for people with paralysis.
However, I do NOT condone animal research.  They say in the article that the scientists deliberately paralyzed the rats in order to perform the experiments.  This is just plain wrong.  They also said that they have been testing on willing human subjects, and I think that they could have done that from the beginning.  It makes me sick that they intentionally paralyzed the rats – and even left some rats permanently paralyzed.  It also surprises me that National Geographic published this article.
But, like I said before, it is a good thing for those who have been paralyzed.
Happy Thursday All!
Take Part:  Guns Blazing: Poachers Move from Animals to Humans
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This article just had to be the Link of the Day because of its importance.  I never really thought of poachers going after the humans that were protecting the animal victims.  Yes, I did read Dian Fossey’s biography, Woman in the Mist (I still haven’t read her actual book, Gorillas in the Mist), and I do agree that she was probably killed by a poacher.  However, I did not know that it was an ongoing problem.

Conservationists, activists, and advocates definitely need more protection when out in the field.  This article shows how we can give back to try to add more security and protection to the people who risk their lives for the animal kingdom.  This is an important issue because without people who care, endangered animals would most likely become extinct.

Check out the article and find out about the current poaching problem, and how you can help.

Happy Sunday All!

I thought this was pretty cool, especially the pictures of Detroit, as I grew up in MI.  While I do not find snapping pictures of Google Earth images a form a photography or art, I can say that this is a much unique, and more safer way, to get photos of neighborhoods that may initially be dangerous to enter with a camera.

Check some of the photos out and tell us what you think!

Flavorwire: ‘Six Seasons and a Movie’: Art Inspired by NBC’s ‘Community’

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m a HUGE fan of TV shows.  At one point I followed 18 different TV shows religiously.  However, ‘Community’ is one of my all time favorites.  I didn’t really like it in the beginning as the first couple of episodes were a little typical and slow, but I fell in love with it by maybe the 5th episode and realized just how different and original this show truly is.
So, it is only right that this is the Link of the Day.  All of these fan arts are so cool, and make sure you check out the second one.  Of course, if you haven’t seen the show you won’t understand, but that’s why you MUST watch it!  It really is so good!
Have you seen ‘Community’?
Happy Wednesday All!
Link of the Day: Any Takers on Old Prisons?!
Flavorwire: Would You Buy One of New York State’s Old Prisons?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Why yes, yes I would buy an old prison.  I have always been fascinated with haunted houses, ghost towns, and now I guess old, deserted prisons!

If I bought one of these prison properties, I would turn it into a wildlife sanctuary.  Of course I would have to transform it to accommodate animals, but I would love to turn it into a positive place that helps animals.

Would you buy an old prison?  And if yes, what would you do with it?

Happy Tuesday All!

Michigan in Pictures: Happy Gwen Frostic Day!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have been a fan of Gwen Frostic since I was a little girl.  My mother visited the Gwen Frostic studio with her parents, and she has taken my sister and me where I started my collection of Ms. Frostic’s beautiful stationary and greeting cards with her iconic nature designs.
Since today is Gwen Frostic day, I thought it was only appropriate for the link of the day to be from one of my favorite blogs here on WordPress: Michigan in Pictures.  Click on the link above and check out the honoring of Gwen Frostic, and make sure to check out the interview with this amazing woman.
Happy Wednesday All & Happy Gwen Frostic Day!
