At what age did you first start to feel like an adult?
Honestly, I still don’t feel like an adult, and I don’t think I ever will.
Everyone I hang out with, I’m close to, is so much older than me that sometimes I feel like I’m still a child. And they all do take care of me like I’m a child, babying me at times. But I don’t mind.
Even when I turned 21, the age that you can finally legally drink the States, an age when most people feel like an adult, it wasn’t that big deal to me because I had already been drinking legally in Spain since I was 18 (their drinking age). So my 21st birthday came and went without a huge deal to me.
However, I did feel the most “adult” when I turned 18. Something about that day, my 18th birthday, was sort of an eye-opening-oh-my-god-what-am-I-going-to-do-with-my-life kind of day. I remember listening to Don McLean’s “American Pie” and just cried.
And then after I cried, I got on with my life and my feeling of being an “adult” stopped.
What do you think is the #1 key to happiness?
