FIN

Ahem.  I’m am pleased to announce that you are looking at another National Novel Writing Month winner!

*pops open a bottle of champagne*

I have officially completed the 50,000 word goal, and it only took me 28 days!

While I am excited beyond no end, especially since it was my first year competing and I won (YAY!), I am still not done with my novel.  Correction: I am way, WAY NOT done with my novel.

Let’s see.  I have exactly 50,000 words and have just started chapter 6.  There are to be 12 chapters, so…I have…6 more chapters to go and probably another 50K words to write.  There is still a long writing road ahead of me to finish this damn thing!

But that’s OK.  That’s OK because I chose a story that is interesting to me and one that I want to keep on writing.  I will not give up, and definitely not let myself lose motivation.  Just because NaNo is over, does not mean my inspiration and writing schedule is over.  No, no, no.  I can do this, and I will finish it!

However, for the rest of the night (it’s 9pm here in Spain) I shall be celebrating!

CHYEAH BOI!

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?: Another NaNo Excerpt

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading?  by  Book Journey

I am still having trouble juggling NaNo and reading for pleasure, so lately I have done no reading.  Which trust me, sucks!

So for today’s Monday reading, I will instead give you another excerpt from my NaNo novel.

Enjoy and remember that critique is always welcome!

“Shhh…Lola,” her mother said patting her daughter’s head.  “Nothing happened, everything is fine.  You just had a bad dream.”

Lola’s eyes widened.  What was her mother saying?  Nothing was fine and it all was not a dream.  The sound of the gun and her mother’s pleas still echoed in her mind, but her mother would not tell her what had happened.

Lola watched as her mom, her only parent and stable support, continued to rock back and forth, the blood from her nose dripping heavier and her sobs becoming short and quick as if her mother was hyperventilating.

“Mom?” Lola asked, the sight too much to bear.  “Are you OK?  What is going on?”

Lola’s mother just continued rocking, bleeding and sobbing while the night outside turned slowly into day.  Lola sat in silence next to her parent, her brain and ears finally blocking everything out.  She watched her mother’s sanity leave, Lola thinking that maybe Ted and the police had taken it with them.

Daily Question

Q:

What have you been counting or keeping track of recently?

A:

My NaNo word count.

When competing in NaNo, your word count is very important.  You need to keep track of your overall word count, along with your day to day word count.  Sometimes it’s frustrating to realize that one day you write 2 thousand and some words, and then the next day, you barely break 1000.  It’s all about patience and not letting that word count number get to you!

For me, as of now, I have 37,500 words.  So I’m happy and I will try to reach 40K today, and then the 50K will be within sight!  🙂

Daily Question

Q:

What has the little voice inside your head been saying lately?

A:

The voice in my head has been telling me to stay motivated and keep writing.

I have actually had a few days were I wrote nothing for my NaNo novel.  Not good.  On those days my confidence is down and that voice is gnawing at me to continue, continue, continue.

I can not give up and that little voice is letting me know that.  I am quite grateful.

Daily Question

Q:

What are three positive things that have happened to you this year?

A:

Actually, I, and those who know what my year has been like, have called this year “the year from hell” for me.  It seemed like everything that could go wrong, did.

First, I’ve had numerous health problems over this past year.  I’ve had to have a few biopsies and go to the hospital.  Was not fun.

Second, I was detained and deported from Spain and could not go back there for a while.  My boyfriend came to MI to be with me but I had to stay in MI by myself for a lot of the time, without him.

Third, I was supposed to get my visa by July/August and start school in September.  Ha!  My FBI background check was a pain in the ass, and because of “high security risks”, I had to wait an entire month just to get that!  I finally received my visa in late September, went to Spain in October, and can’t start school until January.

But enough complaining; the question asks for positive things and I literally just listed off 3 negatives.

Positive #1:  I actually did obtain my visa to study in Spain.  Yes, while it took almost half a year, I did receive it and now I will be able to start school!  🙂

Positive #2:  I’m participating in NaNoWriMo and am actually doing well.  I’m having a lot of fun and I may finally finish that novel I’ve been talking about writing for years!  🙂

And, Positive #3:  While it hasn’t happened yet, I’m very excited for Christmas and New Years.  My mom, step-dad, and sister are all coming from the States to visit me, and I just can’t wait to see them!  It will also be my first Christmas away from home in Michigan, without all the snow, the Christmas tree, the family dinner…etc.  But this year is something different and new, and should be very exciting!  🙂
