This will be the last NaNo teaser from me!

I have officially finished NaNo, though I am still writing to get my story done, and I will be happy to dive back into reading real books!

But for today’s Teaser Tuesday, I am going to give you another, and the last, teaser from my NaNoWriMo novel.  Make sure you tell me what you think!

Title:

Sonrisa

Author:

Me, Kalie Lyn 🙂

Teaser:

Only the sound of one gunshot in the night forced their hands apart, the loud boom causing all three teenagers to jump up in shock.  After the fear had passed, after all three had settled back into the comfort of the couch, did Karim and Lola lock hands again, this time their fingers knowing where to connect with one another’s.

FIN

Ahem.  I’m am pleased to announce that you are looking at another National Novel Writing Month winner!

*pops open a bottle of champagne*

I have officially completed the 50,000 word goal, and it only took me 28 days!

While I am excited beyond no end, especially since it was my first year competing and I won (YAY!), I am still not done with my novel.  Correction: I am way, WAY NOT done with my novel.

Let’s see.  I have exactly 50,000 words and have just started chapter 6.  There are to be 12 chapters, so…I have…6 more chapters to go and probably another 50K words to write.  There is still a long writing road ahead of me to finish this damn thing!

But that’s OK.  That’s OK because I chose a story that is interesting to me and one that I want to keep on writing.  I will not give up, and definitely not let myself lose motivation.  Just because NaNo is over, does not mean my inspiration and writing schedule is over.  No, no, no.  I can do this, and I will finish it!

However, for the rest of the night (it’s 9pm here in Spain) I shall be celebrating!

CHYEAH BOI!

🙂

I actually enjoy taking a break from reading.  Yes, I know, I know, I’m now a book criminal just for saying that, but it’s true.  It’s like taking a break from something that you have done everyday for your life and you absolutely love to do.  You realize just how much you miss it, how much you wish you could do it, and when that time comes, it will make reading even better.  So, not reading during NaNo is a blessing in disguise – plus, it helps me concentrate more on my own novel.

So, for today’s Teaser Tuesday, I am going to give you another little teaser from my NaNoWriMo novel I am writing.  Make sure you tell me what you think!

Untitled at the moment

Teaser:

The three friends chanted widely, danced stupidly, laughed hysterically, and smiled contagiously for the rest of the afternoon.  Their worries and sorrows were far away from their minds, and each had not a care in the world.  While the sky and people outside of the dock were bleak, Lola, Karim and Elle were elated, their faces contorting with joy and their stomachs hurting from pains of laughter.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?: Another NaNo Excerpt

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading?  by  Book Journey

I am still having trouble juggling NaNo and reading for pleasure, so lately I have done no reading.  Which trust me, sucks!

So for today’s Monday reading, I will instead give you another excerpt from my NaNo novel.

Enjoy and remember that critique is always welcome!

“Shhh…Lola,” her mother said patting her daughter’s head.  “Nothing happened, everything is fine.  You just had a bad dream.”

Lola’s eyes widened.  What was her mother saying?  Nothing was fine and it all was not a dream.  The sound of the gun and her mother’s pleas still echoed in her mind, but her mother would not tell her what had happened.

Lola watched as her mom, her only parent and stable support, continued to rock back and forth, the blood from her nose dripping heavier and her sobs becoming short and quick as if her mother was hyperventilating.

“Mom?” Lola asked, the sight too much to bear.  “Are you OK?  What is going on?”

Lola’s mother just continued rocking, bleeding and sobbing while the night outside turned slowly into day.  Lola sat in silence next to her parent, her brain and ears finally blocking everything out.  She watched her mother’s sanity leave, Lola thinking that maybe Ted and the police had taken it with them.

NaNo Word Cloud

So because it’s Friday, and I procrastinate on Fridays, instead of writing I have been creating my own word cloud.

These are the words in the Prologue of my NaNo novel.  Based on these words:

Can you guess what my story is about?

What one word grabs your attention the most?

Would you want to read the story just by seeing these words alone?

Tell me what you think!

NaNo has me trapped.  I am unable to read or even watch a TV show without constantly thinking of my story.  It’s like a curse, but a curse I love having.

For today’s Teaser Tuesday, I am going to give you another little teaser from my NaNoWriMo novel I am writing.  Make sure you tell me what you think!

Teaser:

Lola watched as the two other officers picked up Mr. Craine’s body, one holding the neighbor’s limp hands, the other holding his limp legs, and carried him down the steps.  By the end of the stairs they seemed to be struggling with the weight of the dead man’s body, and accidentally, or maybe purposely, his head hit the side of the ambulance door before they threw him in, his leg getting in the way of the door closing.

Because We All Need Some Inspiration

I have been losing my motivation and inspiration to finish my NaNo novel.  All weekend, I barely wrote 1,000 words, and now that it’s Monday once again, I need to get crackin’ and caught up.

But what if I don’t feel like it?  What if I would rather spend this rainy Spain day watching a movie or a TV show instead?  What if my inspiration is gone and I have no more ideas to spill onto the word document I call a novel?

Well, tough.  That’s life.  I must continue on with or without my inspiration and motivation.  I must plow through my daily required 1,682 words and then some.  I must sit myself down, turn off my internet, and just write.

I know distracting myself by making this blog post isn’t helping my word count or my point, but it must be done.  This blog post is for myself, and for all of you behind, unmotivated NaNo-ers out there who need a little inspiration pick-me-up.

So without much further adieu, here are some of my favorite and inspirational quotes on writing.  Because without other writer’s advice and motivation, we will never get anything done.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it. ~ C.S. Lewis.
Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self. ~ Cyril Connolly.
Beneath the rule of men entirely great,
The pen is mightier than the sword.
 ~ Edward Bulwer Lytton.
The skill of writing is to create a context in which other people can think. ~ Edwin Schlossberg.
Keep writing. Keep doing it and doing it. Even in the moments when it’s so hurtful to think about writing. ~ Heather Armstrong.
The way you define yourself as a writer is that you write every time you have a free minute. If you didn’t behave that way you would never do anything. ~ John Irving.
A writer is a writer not because she writes well and easily, because she has amazing talent, because everything she does is golden. In my view, a writer is a writer because even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway. ~ Junot Diaz.
The only reason for being a professional writer is that you can’t help it. ~ Leo Rosten.
And my favorite and what is currently my desktop background:
“You can’t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club.” ~ Jack London.
