National Geographic: The Truth About Pit Bulls

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pit Bulls have gotten bad rap due to the way they are used.  On account of their natural brute and strength, humans use this breed as attacking dog guards and fighting killers, and because of this Pit Bulls are subjected to breed discrimination on a daily basis.  However, it is not their breed that is harmful, it is the way they are raised and trained.
Yes, certain dogs are aggressive, and sometimes those dogs may be of the Pit Bull breed, however just because one dog of a certain breed is threatening, does not make the breed itself dangerous.  The majority of Pit Bull dogs are loyal and friendly animal companions, and even those who have been subjected to terrible abuse by humans may also be able to be rehabilitated.  It is not the dog that we should fear, but the human owner.
Click on the link above and read the truth about Pit Bulls.  And even though it is necessary to take certain precautions when around dogs you do not know – this goes for all breeds – make sure to keep an open mind and do not discriminate against any certain breed.
Happy Tuesday All!
Flavorwire:  These Incredible Pencil Portraits Will Blow Your Mind
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have no talent for drawing, but it’s one skill I have always wanted to possess.  Being able to draw, paint, or compose a scene strictly with the hand is an art form all in its own.

The portrait above of Mother Teresa was drawn, not photographed, by Kevin Okafor.  His realistic, detailed, perfect drawings show off both his raw talent and undenied artistic abilities.

Check out the link above to see more portraits including Beyoncè, Adele, and Amy Winehouse.

And do you still not believe that these are drawn (I had my doubts at the beginning)?  Then check out Kevin’s drawing process here.

Flavorwire:  10 Famous Authors on the Importance of Keeping a Journal

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have an entire bookshelf containing my 10+ journals, all of which I have kept throughout my 22 years of life.  Journaling is a way for me to relax, to cope, and to explore my feelings, hopes, and dreams through my favorite form of expression: writing.
However, over the past couple of years, I have been falling behind in keeping up with my diaries.  I don’t know if it’s life getting in the way, or that I have neglected it so much that the task of writing more than five months (which is how much time has gone unwritten at the moment) is too daunting for me to even think about attempting, but it pains me how I’ve let my journaling take the back burner.
Thus, I am so happy I have found this post.  Journaling is important for any writer, and hearing the importance of keeping a diary by some of these famous authors has re-inspired me to put pen to paper, and reenter the world of my written life.  So, whether you keep a journal or not, check out the link above!
Do you keep a journal?  If so, why is keeping a journal important for you?
The Huffington Post: 15 Wild Animals Who Think They are Part of the Family
Now this is cool!  The above picture shows actress, Melanie Griffith as a child lying in bed with her family’s pet lion.  A little scary, but completely mind-blowing, though I bet you would not want to roll over on him in the middle of the night!
I do plan on having a wildlife sanctuary one of these days, and can only imagine having an exotic animal as a pet!  However, I do believe that animals, especially wild ones like these, need to be in their natural habitat.  But there’s nothing wrong with finding a pet lion, kangaroo, or elephant cute as can be!
